ABOUT Toasted Sesame Yogurt Dip (Inspired by Tahini and Toum) RECIPE

Growing up on sweet sesame balls (til laddoo) when I discovered tahini I fell in love with it. I love how middle eastern food uses some of my favourite ingredients such as garlic , yogurt and even cumin . I often toast sesame seeds and blend it with chili and oil and use it as a marinade for meat. Then one day I wanted a creamy dip and hence this was born, a creamy nutty and hot dip .

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1/2 cup white sesame seeds
  2. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  3. 2 tbsp Extra virgin olive oil
  4. 1 tbsp finely chopped fresh flat parsley
  5. 3 to 4 whole dried red chilies
  6. 1/2 tsp to 1 tsp salt
  7. 4 to 5 cloves of garlic
  8. 200 gram hung curd
  9. 3/4 tbsp white peppercorn
  10. A tiny pinch of caster sugar


  1. Dry roast the sesame seeds, peppercorn, cumin seeds and chili for 2 minutes. Once lightly browned let it cool down.
  2. Blend the toasted sesame seeds, peppercorn and chili with garlic and olive oil.
  3. Whisk together the hung curd sesame seed paste and add salt and sugar, sprinkle finely chopped parsley and chill.
  4. Serve chilled as a dip.
