ABOUT Hyderabadi Mirch Salan RECIPE

This is an authentic Mirchi Salan. This curry has a tangy and spicy flavour and goes well with biryani or plain rice even roti, naan etc.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 5 long green chillies,deseeded,the one used for making mirchi bajji
  2. 1 medium onion cut (finely)
  3. 1 tbsp Sesame seeds roasted
  4. 1 tbsp Copra roasted lightly in a pan
  5. 1 tbsp peanuts roasted
  6. 1 tsp Chilli Powder
  7. 1 tsp Coriander powder
  8. 1/2 tsp Jeera powder
  9. Khada masala (Cloves, Bay leaf, Shah Jeera)
  10. 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  11. 1/2 tsp Jeera
  12. 1/4 tsp Methi seeds
  13. 1/4 tsp Kalonji
  14. 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  15. 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  16. 1 dried Red chilli
  17. Oil 3 tbsp
  18. 1 lime sized tamarind soaked in water
  19. Curry leaves a few

Instructions

  1. First grind sesame seeds, peanuts and copra to a fine paste.
  2. Squeeze tamarind and reserve the water after straining.
  3. Take kadai, add oil, mustard seeds, jeera, kalonji, methi, red chilli, curry leaves, cloves, bay leaves and shah jeera. Saute for a few minutes. Add onions and ginger garlic paste.
  4. When onions are done, add green chillies, keep frying. Add turmeric and little salt.
  5. Add the red chilli powder, dhania, jeera powder and turmeric powder.
  6. At this stage add tamarind water, adjust salt. Leave for a few minutes.
  7. Add paste of peanuts, sesame seeds and copra. Adjust water and salt.
  8. Cook it covered and leave it on a low flame till oil comes on top.
