ABOUT Coconut candy RECIPE

Thengai mittai popularly called as coconut candy is made using jaggery. A traditional sweet of Tamilnadu and here is the recipe for it.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1 cup fresh grated coconut
  2. 1 cup jaggery
  3. 1 tbspn ghee
  4. 5-6 cardamom pods

Instructions

  1. 1.Apply ghee to a plate or wooden board and rolling pin, keep aside. .
  2. 2. Combine jaggery and coconut in a thick bottomed pan and start heating.
  3. 3. Keep mixing on a medium low flame taking care the mixture does not turn brown (it goes from a light color to dark brown within few seconds).
  4. 4. When the mixture becomes frothy and starts leaving the base, take off heat.
  5. 5. Mix the cardamom powder.
  6. 6. Spread the mixture on the prepared wooden board/plate.
  7. 7. Let it cool to room temperature.
  8. 8. Cut it in round shapes with cookie cutter and with a bottle cap press the centre to form a pit.
  9. 9. Store in an airtight container and use
