About No Maida Apple Hand pie Recipe

Apple pies are popular among children . Apples supply nutrition . No doubt . But .. Most of these pastries include plain flour which doesn’t sound healthy at all . To make these Apple pies a perfectly healthy snack / breakfast option , I just tried a twist and voila . It came out so well and my darling daughter loved it . So sharing the recipe here confidently .

No Maida Apple Hand pie

Ingredients to make No Maida Apple Hand pie

  • Whole wheat flour 170 grams
  • salt a pinch
  • Brown bread slices 3 crumbled
  • Fine semolina 1 tablespoon
  • cinnamon powder a big pinch
  • yogurt 3 tablespoons
  • water not more than 1/4 cup
  • oil for Deep frying
  • For the Filling :
  • apple big sized 1 finely chopped
  • butter 2 -3 tablespoons
  • salt to taste
  • cinnamon powder 1/4 teaspoon
  • Seedless soft dates 5 finely chopped

How to make No Maida Apple Hand pie

  1. In a bowl , take 170 grams whole wheat flour .
  2. Add crumbled brown bread slices and knead using finger tips .
  3. Add a tablespoon of fine non roasted semolina .
  4. Add yogurt .
  5. Add salt and cinnamon powder.
  6. Mix all together .
  7. Knead into a smooth dough . Use water only if required.
  8. Cover and rest the dough for 10 minutes in fridge .
  9. Meantime , let’s prepare the Apple filling .
  10. Melt butter in a sauce pan .
  11. Add the chopped apple pieces .
  12. Add the chopped dates .
  13. Add salt .
  14. Add 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder .
  15. In low flame , mix and cook till Apple and dates softens .
  16. Remove from heat and cool completely .
  17. Take the dough .
  18. Make medium sized balls .
  19. Roll into medium thickness sheets .
  20. Place a spoon of apple filling in the centre .
  21. Grease the corners of the sheets with little water .
  22. Fold as shown in the picture .
  23. Seal the edges perfectly so that there will be no leakage .
  24. Gently press the edges using the backside of fork .
  25. Then gently make light cuts on top of the pie .
  26. Heat oil in a wok for deep frying .
  27. Drop these hand pies in the hot oil and fry in medium flame .
  28. Flip and fry both the sides .
  29. Remove the fried pie from the oil . Drain excess oil .
  30. Repeat the process for frying rest of the pies .
  31. Healthy Apple Hand Pies are ready to serve .
  32. Enjoy !
