ABOUT Kathal ki sabji (jackfruit sabji) RECIPE

simple and easy to make is this kathal ki sabzi made in a pressure cooker. the sabzi is flavorful and has a nice taste and meaty texture of the cooked kathal. for those who do not know – kathal is the hindi name for raw unripe jackfruit.the recipe comes from my mom. this is not a dry sabji. there is some gravy in the sabji but not too much.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Peices of fresh jackfruit -10 (here i bought chopped jackfruits from market)
  2. Potatoes -1
  3. Mustard oil -3-4 spoon
  4. Jeera -1teaspoon
  5. Bay leaf-1
  6. Green cardamom-3
  7. Black cardamom-2
  8. Red chilli-2
  9. Garlic -6-7
  10. Ginger chopped-1 teaspoon
  11. Tomato chopped -1 small cup
  12. Onion chopped -3 small
  13. Kashmiri lal mirch powder-1 teaspoon
  14. Salt - as your taste
  15. Water -
  16. Garam masala powder-2teaspoon
  17. Turmeric powder-


  1. In pressure cooker heat mustard oil fry jackfruit peices & potatoes.
  2. In a hot oil add jeera ,bay leaf green cardamom , black fry it again add chopped ginger and crushed garlic satue it . Again add turmeric powder , onion salt tomatoes , nd Kashmiri Lal mirch powder satue onions till brown add gram masala powder ( here my mom used homemade garam masala powder ) fry well by adding jackfruit and potatoes.
  3. By adding Lukewarm water cover the lid , pressure cook sabji for 3 whistles on medium flame switch off the burner
  4. Serve with zeera rice chapati and onion rings
