About Dosa Recipe

Whenever we talk about South Indian delicacies, the first thing that comes in mind is Dosa..At least in our family, it is like this. My son was 3 year old when he first tasted dosa at a restaurant and for him, it was love at first byte! Since then, I started preparing dosa from scratch at home.


Ingredients to make Dosa

  • 1 cup Urad
  • 3 cups idly rice
  • 1 cup regular rice
  • 1 tbsp fenugreek seeds
  • 1 tbsp poha
  • water
  • 3tsp salt

How to make Dosa

  1. Take Urad, idly rice, regular rice, fenugreek seeds & poha. Mix all these in a bowl, wash 3-4 times and soak in enough water for 3-4 hrs.
  2. Grind this mixture to fine batter of pouring consistency. If you are using mixer then add chilled water while grinding.
  3. Keep this batter in warm place for 12-14 hrs. Or overnight for fermentation. It doubles up when fermented properly.
  4. Before making dosa, add little water and salt. Mix well.
  5. Heat a dosa tawa, spread lil oil using onion half. With a laddle spread the batter on tawa to form 9" diam dosa. Apply some more oil/butter, cook from only one side.
  6. Fold the dosa, serve with coconut chutney and sambar.
