About Udnittu raita Recipe

Udnittu is one of the signature dish of udupi, karnatka.

Udnittu raita

Ingredients to make Udnittu raita

  • 10 tsp urad dal/5 tsp urad dal powder
  • 1cup thick curd
  • 1 inch ginger finally chopped
  • 2 green chilli finally chopped
  • 1/2tsp mustard seed
  • 1 pinch asafoetida, (hing)
  • salt to taste
  • Few Curry patta
  • 2 tsp cocunut oil

How to make Udnittu raita

  1. Roast the urad dal light brown,now take a 5 spoon urad dal in a mixing bowl, blender it a fine powder.
  2. Add curd to urad dal and mix it well, make sure there are no lump formed
  3. Also add salt, ginger and green chilli
  4. Heat the pan add coconut oil, mustard seed, curry leaves, hing, when the mustard seed splutter,add remaining urad dal for few seconds
  5. Pour the tempering over the curd dal mixture
  6. Mix well and serve with hot steamed rice topping it with cocunut oil .
