Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1/2 raw mango peeled and chopped (adjust)
  2. 1 cup toor dal
  3. 3/4 teaspoon turmeric
  4. one sprig curry leaves
  5. salt to taste
  6. 21/4 cups + 13/4 cup water
  7. 1.5 tsp red chilli powder (adjust)
  8. 1 green chillies slit
  9. For Seasoning
  10. 1 tbsp ghee
  11. Hing a pinch
  12. 1 tsp mustard seeds
  13. 3-4 curry leaves (optional)
  14. 1 dry red chilli

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook The Dal with 1/4 teaspoon turmeric and 21/4 cups of water until done. The Dal should be very thick. Mash and keep it aside
  2. Adjust the quantity of raw Mango as per the sourness. In a kadai, add mango, 1 cup water, 1/4 TSP turmeric and green chillies. Bring to boil. Cover and cook until mangoes are tender. Don't overcook
  3. Add red chilli powder, remaining turmeric and salt. Mix well
  4. Add cooked dal with remaining water and mix well. Adjust the consistency of dal. This dal should not be watery, it should be slightly thicker
  5. Boil and cook for 3 minutes. Switch off
  6. In a small pan, melt ghee and splutter mustard seeds. Add dry red chilli, hing and curry leaves. Saute for few seconds. Add seasoning to dal and mix
  7. Serve hot with steamed rice
