Its steamed ground rice batter with coconut and seasoning.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1 1/4 cup parboiled rice
  2. Half coconut grated
  3. 1 tesp each of mustard seed and urad dal,
  4. 4 dry red chilli slit to pieces
  5. Few curry leaves chopped
  6. salt as per taste
  7. 4 tbsp oil
  8. 3 tbsp water


  1. Wash and soak rice for 2 hours.
  2. Drain and coarse grind it with 3 tbsp water and salt in a mixer jar.It should be a thick batter.
  3. Add grated coconut and pulse once
  4. Place pan with oil on medium flame
  5. Add mustard, urad dal,once it splutters add chilli and curry leaf
  6. Add the ground batter and saute in low flame for 4 to 5 minutes.
  7. Remove make a little bigger than lemon size balls and place on an oiled idli making plates
  8. Steam them for 15 minutes
  9. Remove serve hot with chutney,sambar or idli podi...
