This is a traditional Bengali fish recipe. It is also known as Aam Aar.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 400 gram aar fish cut into pieces
  2. 2 teaspoon green chilly paste
  3. 2 slitted green chilly
  4. 1 medium sized raw mango
  5. 1/2 cup mustard oil
  6. 2 teaspoon sugar
  7. 2 teaspoon cumin powder
  8. 3 teaspoon garlic paste
  9. 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  10. 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  11. 2 teaspoon chopped coriander leaves
  12. 3/4 cup water
  13. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. 1. Peel the skin and roughly chopped the green mangoes into small pieces.Make a fine paste of it and keep aside.
  2. 2. Marinate the fish with salt and turmeric powder.Keep it for 5 minutes.
  3. 3. Heat oil in a kadai,fry the fish pieces in a low flame.
  4. 4. When done keep them in a plate and set aside.
  5. 5. Add turmeric powder,ginger and garlic paste in the same oil and stir well.
  6. 6. Now add green chilly paste and raw mango paste in it.Mix well.
  7. 7. Now add cumin powder in it and cook for 5 minutes or till the masala starts leaving oil.
  8. 8. Add slitted green chilly,sugar,salt and 3/4 cup water in it.Bring it to a boil.
  9. 9. Now add the fried fish pieces into the gravy and simmer for 4-5 minutes.
  10. 10. When the gravy became thick sprinkle chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
  11. 11. Garnish with slitted green chillies and more chopped coriander leaves.
  12. 12. Tok,Jhal,Misti Aar is ready to serve.
