Ingredients to make Catfish in spicy tomato gravy (Aar Machher Jhol)

  • Catfish(aar fish) 4 pieces
  • Bengoli 5 spice mix 1/2 tsp
  • Chopped onion 2tbsp
  • garlic paste 1/2 tsp
  • turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • cumin powder 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder 1tsp
  • tomato paste 2tbsp
  • salt as per taste
  • mustard oil 4 tbsp
  • Chopped coriander leaves 2 tbsp

How to make Catfish in spicy tomato gravy (Aar Machher Jhol)

  1. Marinade the fish pieces with turmeric powder and salt. Leave it for 5 mins.
  2. In a pan heat oil and fry the fish pieces. Keep aside.
  3. Add Bengali 5 spice mix to the oil.
  4. Add chopped onion, garlic paste, tomato paste, cumin powder, red chili powder, salt, turmeric powder and a little bit water.
  5. Cook for 5 mins until the masala separate oil.
  6. Add water and give it a nice boil.
  7. Add Fried fish pieces. Cover with lid and cook in a low flame for 5 mins.
  8. Sprinkle chopped coriander leaves and serve with plain steamed rice.
