A traditional odiya cuisine made with lauki,rice,jaggery and coconut which is awesome in taste

Lau pitha

Ingredients to make Lau pitha

  • rice 250 gms
  • lauki 2
  • jaggery 100 gms or as per taste
  • salt 1/2 tsp
  • coconut 1 chopped
  • desi ghee 2 tablespoon

How to make Lau pitha

  1. peel and cut lauki discarding the soft part and seeds
  2. pressure cook for 1 whistle
  3. cool it completely and blend in a blender
  4. soak rice for 2 hours and grind to a fine paste
  5. add lauki and rice paste and add 1/2 litre of water
  6. mix well
  7. keep stirring continuously so that no lumps will be formed
  8. add jaggery or sugar and salt
  9. when it will be thick and doesn't stick to your wet hands means it is cooked
  10. add chopped coconut and mix well
  11. take it out from the flame
  12. grease a baking pan and spread the dough evenly pressing gently all over
  13. spread some desi ghee all over
  14. bake at 220 degree for around 1 and half hours or till the crust is golden brown and crispy
  15. cool it completely and then demould it
  16. it can serve a whole lot of 8-10 people..
  17. cut it and serve
