ABOUT Vegetable Hot And Sour Soup RECIPE

Delicious Hot and sour soup need not be chicken nor too complicated all the time..My vegetarian take on this soup is very easy to make and as tasty as the authentic chinese one !! This hot n sour soup that is spiced up with green chilli sauce, pepper powder is so very flavor packed with an added sour tinge of vinegar and with all the veggies that are added make this soup a happy meal all by itself ...

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1 large : Carrot peeled and finely chopped
  2. 1 cup : Cabbage finely chopped
  3. 1 small : Bell pepper finely chopped
  4. 1 small : Onion finely chopped
  5. 1 nos: Green chilli finely chopped
  6. An inch piece : Ginger peeled and finely chopped
  7. 3 to 4 cloves : Garlic finely chopped
  8. 2 cups : Vegetable stock
  9. 1 tbsp : Corn starch diluted in 1/8 cup of water
  10. 2 tbsp : Tomato ketchup
  11. 1 tbsp : Vinegar
  12. 2 tsp : Soy sauce
  13. 1 tsp : White pepper powder
  14. A pinch : Ajinomoto (optional)
  15. 1 tsp : Sugar
  16. 1 tsp : Salt
  17. 1 tbsp : Olive oil
  18. 1/4 cup : Coriander / Cilantro chopped


  1. Prep work : Finely chop all the veggies and keep ready. In a small bowl add the corn starch n mix it with water without any lumps and set aside until use.. In another small bowl add the ketchup, vinegar and soy sauce, mix them well n keep ready..
  2. Method : In a deep pan add olive oil , once its hot add the chopped onion,green chilli, ginger and garlic and saute for couple of mins..
  3. Next stir in the chopped veggies i.e, Cabbage, bell pepper, carrots and give it a good stir .. Sprinkle a half tsp of salt over the veggies and cook covered for a couple of mins .. Later add in the vegetable stock, sauces mix(tomato ketchup, vinegar, soy sauce) and bring this to a boil..
  4. Now add the salt , sugar, pepper powder,ajinomoto (if using) and mix well.. Stir in the diluted corn starch, chopped cilantro n boil for couple of mins until slightly thickened..
  5. Turn off the heat and serve this Hot n Spicy soup with a baguette, bruschetta or Garlic chilli bombs like me !!
  6. The flavors are mind blowingly good and perfect for cool n snoozy days .. Best remedy for colds and sore throats too !! Make and enjoy with your family and friends ..I am damn positive that they will drench you in appreciation !! We love it hope you will love it too !!
