Katte Pongal is a traditional breakfast in south india.Its goes good with sambar and peanut chutney is the best combination for this breakfast.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. rice - 1 cup
  2. Split skinless greendal - 1 cup
  3. turmeric powder - 1/4 spoon
  4. salt - as per taste
  5. ghee - 1/4 cup
  6. ginger - 2 inch piece chopped
  7. cumin seeds - 1 spoon
  8. Green chillies - 3 chopped
  9. Black pepper - 15 to 20
  10. cashew pieces - 1/4 cup
  11. Asofatida - 1 pinch

Instructions

  1. Wash rice and green dal together.Soak for 10 minutes.
  2. Pressure cook rice,dal with 5 cups of water,salt & turmeric for 5 whistles.
  3. Once the pressure gone mash the mixture.
  4. In a tempering pan add ghee and heat in low flame.
  5. Add the cumin seeds,ginger & green chilli pieces,cashew pieces,black pepper, asofatida and curry leaves into the ghee.
  6. Once they splitter and turns golden brown colour switch off the stove .
  7. Add the tempering to the mashed rice & dal .Mix well.
  8. Serve into a banana leaf and eat hot with sambar or peanut chutney.
