A flavoured flat bread recipe from Gujarat prepared with fresh fenugreek leaves, it is typically served for breakfast & lunch with plain yogurt and pickle

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 2 cup wheat flour/atta
  2. 1/4 cup gram flour /besan
  3. 1 tsp Red chilly pd
  4. 1/2 tsp turmeric
  5. 1 tsp sesame seeds /til
  6. 1 tsp cumin /jeera
  7. 1/2 cup fresh curd/dahi
  8. 1 tsp sugar (opt)
  9. 1 cup fresh chopped fenugreek leaves /methi
  10. 1/2tsp carom seeds /ajwain
  11. 2 tbsp oil
  12. Salt as per taste
  13. 1 tsp ginger paste
  14. 2 green chilles chopped
  15. 5 tbsp oil/ghee for roasting thepla
  16. Water as needed for kneading dough


  1. Firstly in a large mixing bowl add all ingredients and add enough water and knead like chapati dough
  2. Now pinch a medium sized ball dough,roll & flatten it, also dust with some wheat flour
  3. Further roll it in a thin circle like chapati
  4. Now on a hot tawa place the rolled thepla and cook for a minute
  5. When the base is partly cooked, flip the methi thepla, also brush oil/ghee slightly
  6. Now your methi theplas are ready to serve
  7. Serve thepla with pickle and plain yogurt
