A traditional sindhi breakfast is complete with the combination of dal pakwan. You can serve it separately or make a single plate serving like i have done .

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. For pakwan
  2. 1 cup wheat flour
  3. 1 cup all purpose flour
  4. 1/2 cup sooji
  5. 1 tsp carrom seeds
  6. 1 tsp black pepper powder
  7. 2 tbsp ghee
  8. Salt,to taste
  9. For the dal
  10. 1 1/2 cup chana dal
  11. Salt,to taste
  12. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  13. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  14. 1 tsp garam masala powder
  15. 1 tsp dry mango powder
  16. 1 tbsp ghee
  17. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  18. Pinch asafoetida
  19. To serve with
  20. 1/2 cup green chutney
  21. 1/2 cup imli chutney
  22. 1/2 cup chopped onion
  23. 1/2 cup namkeen
  24. Chopped coriander leaves


  1. To make pakwan make a dough with wheat flour , all purpose flour,sooji,salt ,carrom seeds and black pepper powder.
  2. Cover this and keep for 15-20 mins.
  3. To make dal add dal,water,salt and turmeric powder to a pressure cooker.
  4. Cook it for 2 whistle and then for 3-4 mins on low flame .
  5. To make pakwan take small balls of dough and roll them out
  6. Make holes on it with fork so that they don't puff up while frying
  7. Fry these on medium flame till golden brown on both sides.
  8. Take out dal in a bowl and sprinkle some red chilli powder,garam masala powder and dry mango powder on top.
  9. Take ghee in a tadka pan and add asafoetida and cumin seeds.
  10. Put this tadka on the dal.
  11. Serve dal pakwan separately or with both chutneys and onion and namkeen.
