ABOUT Spiced Tumbler Idly RECIPE

These are idlies spiced with cumin and pepper and steamed in glass / tumblers.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. To soak and grind:
  2. Raw rice 1 cup
  3. Idli rice 1 cup
  4. Urad dal 3/4 cup
  5. Methi seeds 1 teaspoon
  6. Salt to taste
  7. For tempering :
  8. Gingelly oil one teaspoon
  9. mustard seeds, cumin 1 teaspoon each
  10. pepper, cuminpowder half teaspoon
  11. Ginger, green chillies 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Soak all the ingredients given under to grind except salt for about 3 hours. Grind them into idly batter .Add salt and give a good mix .Allow it to ferment for about 6 hours
  2. In a kadai add a teaspoon of gingelly oil and when hot add all the ingredients given to temper . mix it up with idly batter
  3. Grease the tumblers with oil and pour the batter upto three fourth of the glass. Steam cook for 10 minutes.
  4. Serve hot with chutney or sambar
