ABOUT Tomato rasam RECIPE

This is a rasam with out any dal.It can be done in a jiffy if there is a rasam powder.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Tomato 1
  2. Fresh Shredded coconut 2 table spoons
  3. Oil 2 table spoons
  4. For rasam powder: byadge or kashmir red chillies 2
  5. Jeera/cumin seeds 1/2 tea spoon
  6. Mustard seeds 1/8 tea spoon
  7. Coriander seeds 1/4 tea spoon
  8. Fenugreek seeds a pinch
  9. Curry leaves 10
  10. Tamarind extract/ juice 4 table spoons
  11. Jaggery 1/2 inch
  12. Salt to taste
  13. Chopped Cilantro 2 table spoons
  14. For tempering: mustard seeds 1/8 tea spoon
  15. Cumin seeds 1/8 tea spoon
  16. Asafoetida 1/4 tea spoon

Instructions

  1. Boil the tomato and peel the skin off
  2. Heat 1 table spoon oil in a pan and add red chillies, fenugreek mustard,cumin, coriander seeds and sauté them
  3. It must be fried on a low flame so that it is light brown in color
  4. Now add fresh coconut (grated/ shredded) and turn off the stove
  5. Once it cools down grind all these along with the boiled tomato
  6. Now take this in to a chalice or a large bowl and add tamarind juice,jaggery,salt to it
  7. Boil for few minutes and add chopped coriander to it
  8. Finally add tempering to it and serve hot with rice
