A very simple Hydrabadi dessert.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Dried Apricots - 500 gms
  2. Sugar - 3/4 cup
  3. Malai or vanilla custard for serving
  4. Nuts of your choice (Optional)


  1. Soak khubani (Apricots) for 8-10 hours or overnight.
  2. Remove from water and preserve the water.
  3. Break the apricots and remove the seeds. Keep the seeds (Apricot Almonds) aside.
  4. In a pan cook khubani in the above preserved water covered with a lid, after 5-7 minutes. Check if done when nicely cooked, mash with a masher. Do not completely puree it leave half mashed.
  5. Add sugar and cook till it melts and forms a nice thick consistency. Add the apricots badam and give a stir.
  6. Serve hot or cold as it is or topped with malai or vanilla custard. Garnish with nuts or just sliced apricots badam.
