Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. yellow tur dal 1 cup
  2. red masoor dal 1 cup
  3. Onion 1 large, sliced
  4. Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  5. Red chilli powder 1/2 tsp
  6. Tomatoes 3
  7. Green chilli 8-10
  8. Garlic 1 pod (full flower)
  9. Ginger 1 inch
  10. Jeera 1 tsp
  11. Curry leaves 5-6
  12. Lemon juice 2 tsp
  13. For tadka: 1/2 onion finely chopped
  14. Curry leaves 5-6
  15. garlic cut into pieces a handful
  16. Jeera 1 tsp
  17. Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  18. Whole red chillies 2
  19. Hing a pinch
  20. Coriander leaves finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Wash and keep the dal on the stove. Remove the froth that gathers and add sliced onion 4 -5 pieces of garlic salt turmeric and red chilly powder
  2. cover and cook for about 10 mins .
  3. in the mean while heat a separate pan add garlic ginger green chillies zeera and a few drops of oil saute till golden
  4. transfer this to a mortar or pestle add few coriander leaves and make a coarse paste
  5. after 10 mins add tomtoes to the dal also add the masala prepared in the mortar
  6. mix well and cook coverd unttil the dal is cooked
  7. add more water if required and the lemon juice
  8. adjust the consistency and switch off the flame
  9. now heat a tadka bowl add oil .then add the whole red chilly mustard seeds when it splutters add the chopped garlic and onion also add zeera
  10. cook till the onion turns light golden in color
  11. now add the hing and curry leaves remove from flame add chopped coroander leaves
  12. pour this tadka over the dal and serve hot with steam rice
