ABOUT Aloo wali Dal (Moong chilka with potato) RECIPE

This dal was named aloo wali dal by me. I tasted this dish after marriage amd fell in love with it.It is a very simple,healthy and easy one pot meal for times when you don't feel like making a subji or you have not decided on a meal.It is a petfect combination of proteins and carbohydrates. Try this and you too will surely love it.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Moong chilka - 1 cup
  2. Potato - 1
  3. Salt as per taste
  4. Turmeric (Haldi) - 1/2 tsp
  5. For Tadka :
  6. Ghee - 2 tsp
  7. Sabut Jeera - 1/2 tsp
  8. Hing a pinch
  9. Coriander Powder - 1/2 tsp
  10. Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  11. Amchur powder - 1/2 tsp
  12. Garam masala - 1/2 tsp

Instructions

  1. Wash the moong chilka dal properly.
  2. Cut potato in small thin pieces.
  3. Take a heavy bottomed pan or a pressure cooker and add the dal and potato.
  4. Add salt and haldi.
  5. Put water in the cooker just about covering the dal and potato. You can add water later if required.
  6. Let it come to a boil and then turn the flame to low.
  7. Cover the cooker with a lid. We do not need to pressure cook the dal. Keep checking in 10 minutes till potatoes are cooked.
  8. Now take a Tadka pan and put ghee in it. Once the ghee is hot, add jeera, hing, coriander powder and red chilli powder. Add the Tadka to the dal. Mix well. Now add the amchur and the garam masala. Mix and turn off the gas.
  9. Enjoy hot with chapatis.
