Ingredients to make Chocolaty Potato Au Gratin

  • For potato filling-
  • potatoes 6 no. (Medium )
  • paneer 1 cup. ( made fresh)
  • butter or Olive Oil 2 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • pepper powder 1/2 tsp
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder 1 tsp ( heaped )
  • For sauce -
  • butter or ghee ( 6 tsp melted)
  • wheat flour / maida 6 tsp ( heaped )
  • Milk 6 cups (600 ml)
  • Cheese grated ( 2 tbsp )
  • Roasted garlic flakes 1 tsp
  • red chilli flakes 1 tsp ( according to taste )
  • pepper powder 1 tsp
  • For garnish-
  • Cheese grated 2 tbsp
  • pomegranate seeds 1 tbsp
  • Chocolate chips 1 tbsp

How to make Chocolaty Potato Au Gratin

  1. Wash and peel potatoes.
  2. Grate it and saute in butter or oil for 5 minutes. Add salt and pepper.
  3. Add cocoa powder mixed with a little water and stir fry on high flame. As water evaporates put the gas off and let it cool.
  4. Add crumbled Paneer and mix well.
  5. Heat butter or ghee in a nonstick pan , add flour, saute a little. Add hot milk stirring constantly not to form lumps. Add salt and pepper and cook till thickens. Add roasted Garlic flakes and Chilli flakes.
  6. Grease a baking dish. Spread half of white sauce. Now spread Potato and Paneer mixture on it.
  7. Now add Pomegranate seeds and Oragano to the rest half white sauce and make a layer on potato Paneer mixture. Spread the Cheese over it and bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes at 180 C.
  8. After 10 minutes take out of oven , garnish with Chocolate Chips and bake for another 5 minutes.
  9. Let it cool a while before serving.

My Tip:

Adding Garlic flakes , herbs and Chilli flakes with Cocoa Powder adds a new flavour to the dish. Chocolate chips garnish adds a sweet flavour to this Savoury Cheese sauce.
