ABOUT Baked Potato Au Gratin RECIPE

A simple and classic French dish made by layering potatoes and white sauce, topped with cheese and butter.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 2 medium potatoes
  2. 1 cup grated cheese
  3. 2 tablespoon butter
  4. For the white sauce:
  5. 2 tablespoon butter
  6. 2 tablespoon all purpose flour
  7. 2 cups milk
  8. 1/2 teaspoon black pepper powder
  9. 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg powder
  10. 1 teaspoon mixed herbs
  11. 1 teaspoon red chilli flakes
  12. salt to taste


  1. Peel the potatoes and slice them into discs with 1 CM thickness.
  2. Take a big open pan, fill it with water and boil the potatoes in it for 5 mins till little soft. Drain and keep them aside.
  3. Meanwhile, for the white sauce take another pan, put in butter and flour and stir for a min or so till the rawness of flour goes off.
  4. Slowly add the milk to the flour with constant stirring to avoid lump formation.
  5. Add in the salt, pepper powder, nutmeg powder, mixed herbs and chilli flakes.
  6. Keep stirring the white sauce for nearly 5 mins or so till it gets thick.
  7. Now take a buttered baking dish and layer it completely with the single layer of potatoes.
  8. On the potatoes, put a layer of white sauce and then grated cheese.
  9. Repeat the layers with potatoes, white sauce and cheese and finally some seasoning and butter on top.
  10. Bake it in a preheated oven at 180 degree C for 25-30 mins till you get a nice golden brown crust in top.
  11. Serve hot with your choice of bread.
