ABOUT Aloo Chop RECIPE

A very popular street food of Kolkata. Aloo Chop is the most common telebhaja of the Bengalis. A very simple and easy to make snack recipe.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Potatoes 2 large
  2. Ginger garlic paste 2 tsp coarsely grounded
  3. Green chilly 2 chopped
  4. Cumin Powder 1/2 Tsp
  5. Coriander powder 1/2 tsp
  6. Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  7. Oil for Deep frying
  8. Salt to taste
  9. For batter:
  10. Besan 6-7 tsp
  11. Rice flour 2 tsp
  12. Chilly powder 1/2 tsp
  13. Baking soda a pinch
  14. Water as required
  15. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Peel the potatoes and pressure cook for 2 whistles. Once pressure releases drain off the water and mash the potatoes. Set aside.
  2. Heat a tblspn oil in a pan.
  3. Add the ginger garlic, green chillies and fry for a min.
  4. Add turmeric powder, cumin and coriander powder and mix well.
  5. Add the mashed potato, salt and mix thoroughly. Set aside.
  6. Take the batter ingredients and make a smooth batter without any lumps by adding water little by little at a time. Make sure that the batter is not thin.
  7. Make small balls from the potato mixture and flatten the balls using your palms.
  8. Heat oil for deep frying.
  9. Take each flatten potato mixture, dip in batter and deep fry till golden which will take around 5-10 mins.
  10. Drain in absorbent paper/towel and serve with any chutney of your choice or serve as it is with hot cup of tea.
