About Gurer Payesh Recipe

A popular Bengali sweet dish which is sweet and incredibly rich and delicious. This recipe is brought to you in association with the Murugappa Group for the 'Know your Staples' campaign.

Gurer Payesh

Ingredients to make Gurer Payesh

  • 2 litres Milk
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 cup jaggery grated
  • 1-2 tbsp cashews
  • 2 tbsp raisins
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 3 Green cardamoms

How to make Gurer Payesh

  1. Clean and wash the rice thoroughly.Drain and leave for 1 hour
  2. Blanch the almonds and slice.Wash the raisins.
  3. Bring the milk to boil and the lower the heat, stir continously for 20 mins.
  4. Add the rice and continue to stir until the rice is cooked
  5. Mix in sugar and jaggery. Stir until it become half in volume.
  6. Dry roast the cashews and rainis in a pan fro 1 minute.
  7. Add cardamoms, cashews and raisins to it.
  8. Remove from heat and refrigerate.
