ABOUT Khara Anda Semiya RECIPE

A famous savory dish from Bangalore - Khara Semiya or vermicelli, is an easy and quick breakfast or tiffin and iftar option. This dish can be prepared in minutes with few readily available kitchen ingredients. It can be made in veg and non veg versions too.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Roasted Semiya - 1 packet
  2. Onion - 1 (Medium)
  3. Tomato - 2 medium or 3 small
  4. Coriander leaves - handful
  5. Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
  6. Chilly powder - 1/4 - 1/2 tsp
  7. Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
  8. Salt according to taste
  9. Water - 350 to 400ml
  10. Eggs - 2
  11. Mince - 150grams

Instructions

  1. Make a coarse paste of onion and coriander leaves. Set aside.
  2. Make a paste of tomatoes. Set aside.
  3. In a cooker, add some oil - fry onion, coriander paste till raw smell disappears. Cook on medium flame. Do not burn. To this add ginger garlic paste. Saute for few seconds.
  4. Add mince at this stage and fry well till its lightly roasted.
  5. For vegetarian version add vegetables and saute for a few minutes.
  6. Add tomato paste and fry well till it leaves oil on sides of cooker. Add the spices.
  7. Add water and cook for 1 whistle. Once the steam is reduced, open the lid and cook on low flame. Break the vermicelli to pieces and add to the gravy. Mix thoroughly and put the lid back and steam for a minute on low flame.
  8. Remove from flame and keep aside for 10 minutes. Serve hot.
  9. For egg version, before serving semiya, make scrambled egg using 2 eggs. Mix this to the cooked semiya.
