Yam Cutlets are made out of boiled elephant foot yam/Suran are shallow fried and served with ketchup.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Yam/Suran: 250 gms
  2. Green chillies: 4-5 finely chopped
  3. Besan/Chickpea flour: 1.5 tbsp
  4. Corn flour: 1.5 tbsp
  5. Amchoor/Dry mango powder: 1 spoon
  6. Chat masala: 1 spoon
  7. cumin/Jeera Powder: 1 spoon
  8. Dhania/coriander Powder: 1 spoon
  9. Bread Crumbs: 1 Small pack
  10. peanuts: 3 tbsp
  11. ginger Garlic paste: 1/2 spoon
  12. chilli powder: 1 spoon
  13. salt: To taste
  14. oil: For frying


  1. Dice the yam into medium sized cubes and pressure cook by adding little salt and turmeric for two whistles.
  2. Cool, open and mash it well.
  3. Dry roast peanuts, remove the skin and grind to coarse powder.
  4. Take the mashed yam in a mixing bowl and add in all the mentioned ingredients except bread crumbs and oil and mix well to make a cutlet mixture.
  5. Heat a non stick pan and pour oil on it.
  6. Take a portion of the prepared mixture and give it the shape of a cutlet/tikki.
  7. Roll it on bread crumbs, spread on a flat plate on all side and place it on the hot pan.
  8. Flip after few minutes and cook until both the sides are crisp and brown.
  9. Serve these delicious yam cutlets with ketchup.
