ABOUT Odisha Style Dal Tadka RECIPE

A mix of dals cooked with spices and tomatoes, and topped with scrambled eggs !!

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1/2 cup Urad Dal (with skin)
  2. 1/2 cup green moong Dal
  3. 1/2 cup channa Dal (with skin)
  4. a fistful of toor dal
  5. a fistful of Kabuli channa
  6. a fistful of vatana
  7. 1/4 cup Rajma
  8. 1 large Onion
  9. 2-3 large tomatoes
  10. 1 1/2 tbsp GG paste
  11. 2-3 pinch garam masala
  12. 1 tsp meat masala
  13. 1/2 tsp turmeric
  14. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  15. 4 tbsp oil
  16. 1 tbsp butter
  17. 2 green chilis
  18. 2 eggs
  19. cilantro for garnishing
  20. salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Soak pulses overnight. Chop the onion, green chillis and tomatoes into small pieces. Wash and transfer the pulses to a pressure cooker. Add salt and turmeric and some water to cover the pulses. Cook for 3-4 whistles or till slightly mushy.
  2. Heat oil in a wok. Add the cumin and green chilli . Once the seeds crackle, add onions and fry till they turn translucent. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook till the onions are brown.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes and cook till soft. Add the boiled pulses at this stage and cook for 5 mins. Add the garam masala and crushed maggie cubes. Mix well, cover with a lid and remove from the fire.
  4. Heat a little oil in another pan. Add the beaten eggs and scramble them . Sprinkle the egg bhurji over the Tadka dal and add a tsp of butter.
  5. Serve hot with rotis or naan or Kerala paratha.
