Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Toor /Arhar Dal 2 cups
  2. Tomatoes, finely chopped 1 Tbsp
  3. Onion, finely chopped 1 Tbsp
  4. Garlic, crushed 1 teaspoon
  5. Green chilly 3 to 4
  6. Red chilly whole 2 to 3
  7. Turmeric powder 1 /2 teaspoon
  8. Red chilly powder 1 teaspoon
  9. Salt to taste
  10. Oil 1 to 2 tablespoons
  11. Jeera 2 teaspoons
  12. Asafoetida


  1. Wash and soak dal in water for some time.
  2. Add turmeric powder,salt and asafoetida and cook dal till soft
  3. Ingredients used for seasoning:
  4. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan and crackle 1 teaspoon of jeera.
  5. Add finely chopped onion and chopped green chilly and sauté till golden brown.
  6. Now add finely chopped tomatoes and sauté till they become soft.
  7. Add little turmeric powder and red chilly powder.
  8. Now add cooked Toor/Arhar dal to it.
  9. Mix well and give it a boil.
  10. Heat some oil on pan, add 1 teaspoon of jeera, pinch of Asafoetida, turmeric powder, red chilly powder and whole red chillies....sauté till nice aroma comes
  11. Now pour this tadka /seasoning on ready dal ...garnish with coriander and chopped onion.
  12. Serve with Phulka, chapati,Nan,or steamed rice
