Healthy veg falafel wraps

Ingredients to make Healthy veg falafel wraps

  • For falafel:
  • chickpeas - 1 cup(soaked overnight)
  • handful of coriander leaves
  • garlic cloves - 4-5
  • onion - 1 Large
  • green chillies - 3
  • salt to taste
  • red chilli flakes to taste
  • coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
  • mustard oil - 1 tsp
  • besan - 2 tbsp
  • baking soda -1/2 tsp(optional)
  • lemon juice - 1/2 tsp(optional)
  • oil for frying
  • For wraps:
  • Roti or chapatis - 6
  • onion rings - 2
  • Lettuce - a few leaves
  • Mayonnaise - as required
  • Green chutney - as required ( optional)
  • Sesame chutney - as required

How to make Healthy veg falafel wraps

  1. In a blender add soaked chickpeas, onion, garlic, green chillies and Coriander leaves. Blend this to a coarse paste without adding water.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a bowl. Add salt, chilli flakes, cumin powder, coriander powder and red chilli powder. Add baking soda and lemon juice if using.
  3. Heat 1 tsp of oil, then pour into the mixture. Add besan and mix well.
  4. Make equal sized balls, shape them into Cutlets and deep fry or shallow fry in oil till golden brown. Falafel is ready.
  5. For wrap:
  6. Take a roti. Spread mayonnaise all over the roti. Keep lettuce leaves, smear some chutneys, a few onion rings, chilli flakes and then falafel. Pour sesame chutney and cover it. Serve immediately.

My Tip:

For sesame chutney: In a pan, add oil. Add ginger and garlic. Add 2 tbsp sesame seeds, red chilli flakes and once they begin popping, add onions and fry till translucent. Add 3 chopped large tomatoes. Cook till tomatoes are soft. Blend once cool, add lemon juice.
