Ingredients to make Velvety black lentil curry

  • 1cup whole black gram
  • 1/2cup cooked red kidney beans
  • 1tbsp ginger paste
  • 5 large garlic cloves
  • 3 tomatoes
  • salt, to taste
  • 3/4 cup double cream
  • 2-4 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder,or to taste
  • 3/4 tsp ground cumin
  • Chopped coriander for garnish
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 3/4 tsp dried fenugreek leaves,crushed

How to make Velvety black lentil curry

  1. Wash the black gram .
  2. Place them in a large bowl,cover with fresh water and leave to soak for two hours.
  3. Rinse the lentils.
  4. Take a saucepan and boil lentils with 1 litre water.
  5. Cover and simmer gently for 30 minutes or until soft.
  6. Stir occasionally and top up with water,if necessary.
  7. Make a smooth paste of tomato and garlic.
  8. Pour the mixture and garlic paste into the soft lentils.
  9. Add salt.cook it for 15 minutes. Add extra hot water,if necessary.
  10. Add cream,butter,spices,crushed fenugreek leaves along with red kidney beans.
  11. Cook for another10 minutes.
  12. In last garnish with chopped green coriander and butter.
  13. Serve with Naan or parantha.
