ABOUT Prawn Pillows RECIPE

When kids return from school, all tired and hungry, Prawn Pillows are the best dish to be served. These pillows are a bit Chinese with an Indian twist. And hence kids would happily gobble them.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Prawns 250 g
  2. Red chili powder 2 tsp (divided)
  3. Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  4. Onion 1 (small, finely chopped)
  5. Tomato 1 (chopped)
  6. Corriander leaves 2 tbsp (chopped)
  7. Ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp (divided)
  8. Tomato Sauce 2 tbsp
  9. Soya Sauce 1 Tbsp
  10. Salt as required
  11. Oil 1 tbsp
  12. Rice flour 1/2 cup
  13. Boiled water 1 cup

Instructions

  1. Marinate the prawns with 1 tsp red chili powder, turmeric powder, 1/2 tbsp ginger garlic paste and salt.
  2. Let it rest for about 30 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a pan.
  4. Add the chopped onions and saute until they turn soft and pink.
  5. Next add the ginger garlic paste and saute till the raw smell goes off.
  6. Add little salt and mix well.
  7. Simmer the flame.
  8. Now add 1 tsp red chili powder and saute.
  9. Add in the marinated prawns and saute for a minute.
  10. Now add 2 tbsp water and cook covered for about 5 minutes.
  11. Next uncover the pan and let most of the water evaporate.
  12. At this stage add the chopped tomatoes and saute until they turn soft.
  13. Then add the tomato sauce and soya sauce and mix well.
  14. Add in the chopped corriander leaves and mix.
  15. Cook covered for about a minute.
  16. Switch the flame off. The filling for the pillow is ready.
  17. Now keep 1 cup water for boiling.
  18. In a bowl, mix together the rice flour and little salt.
  19. Once the water boils add it to the rice flour and mix with the back of a ladle.
  20. Once it cools a bit, mix thoroughly with hands to form a soft dough.
  21. Keep the steamer ready with water and switch the flame on.
  22. Now make small balls of the dough.
  23. Flatten the dough balls using your palms to form a small rectangle.
  24. Make another rectangle of same size and shape.
  25. Now take one rectangular dough sheet and place 1-2 tsp of the prawn filling on it.
  26. Place the other rectangle sheet on top of this.
  27. Press the edges gently and seal it using a fork.
  28. So now one pillow is ready to be steamed.
  29. Repeat the process until all the filling and dough is used up.
  30. Steam the pillows for 15-20 minutes on medium flame.
  31. Serve hot.
