Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients to make Red Velvet Cake

  • flour 2&1/2 cup
  • sugar 1&1/2cup
  • butter 1&1/2cup
  • Soda 1tsp
  • salt 1/2tsp
  • buttermilk 1cup
  • eggs 2
  • Cocoa powder 1tbsp
  • vinegar 1tsp
  • Red colour 1 tbsp
  • Vanilla 1tsp
  • ICING:
  • cream cheese 200g
  • butter 1/2cup
  • Icing sugar 300g
  • Vanilla 1tsp

How to make Red Velvet Cake

  1. Sieve flour, baking soda, salt and cocoa powder. I made this cake by adding cocoa powder to get a nice red colour.
  2. In a mixing bowl whisk butter and sugar. Mix it properly and add lightly beaten eggs. Fold in dry ingredients, colour, essence and vanilla. Finally add vinegar and buttermilk. Pour the mixture in 9? round mould or in a heart shaped mould.
  3. For valentine day it will be appropriate to use heart shape mould and bake in a preheated oven for 45-50 minutes at 180 centigrade. Remove and cool on a wire racks or few hours.or overnight.
  4. Icing:Beat butter and cream cheese together with a hand mixer. Add essence and icing sugar until smooth. Keep in the fridge for an hour. Cut the cake horizontally into two even layers.
  5. Place base layer on a serving plate and spread with little cream cheese icing, top with second layer. Spread cake sides and top evenly with remaining cream cheese icing. Decorate as you like. Keep refrigerated.
