Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Raw rice - 2 glasses
  2. Fresh grated coconut - 1 big cup
  3. Poha - 1 katori
  4. Instant yeast - half tspn
  5. salt to taste
  6. sugar - about 4 to 5 tspn
  7. water as required for grinding the batter


  1. Take a vessel & put the rice in it. Wash it & soak for 4 to 5 hours.
  2. Now wash the poha & keep aside
  3. In a mixer grind the rice along with the coconut & poha to a smooth batter.
  4. Add salt & sugar. Mix well. Now put yeast & give a nice stir. Keep it for fermenting in a big vessel as it may rise up.
  5. If the batter is thick you can dilute it by adding water ....It should be watery & of pouring consistency...
  6. Now take a non stick appam chatti/pan and heat it
  7. When hot pour a laddle full of this batter & rotate the pan by spreading the batter to the sides leaving the centre a bit thick
  8. Cover with a lid & let it cook for a minute on low to medium flame
  9. When done remove from the pan gently. Here you do not flip the appam as a reqular dosa.
  10. Serve hot with veg stew, chicken curry or chutney of your choice :blush:
