ABOUT Garlic Naan ( On Stove Top) RECIPE

Naan is one of the popular traditional flatbreads of india baked in Tandoor. The word naan is derived from persian word nan which means bread. In Afghanistan, Tandoor was used as a community oven where people would come with a dough and nan waee ( naan baker) would bake for some fee. The traditional naans were seen in Teardrop shape. But actually naan got this shape because of slapping a round ball of dough onto the hot surface of outside the oven. Due to the soft pillow kind of dough, the dough would come down little bit and gets this shape. Now a days, naan is made in dufferent shapes like round, oblong or triangle.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Flour- 2 cups
  2. Yeast- 1 tsp
  3. Sugar-1 tsp
  4. Warm water- 1/4 th cup ( 110C to 115C)
  5. Baking powder- 1/2 tsp
  6. Salt- 1 tsp
  7. Warm milk- 1/2 cup
  8. Curd-1/2 cup
  9. Oil- 1 tbsp
  10. Melted butter- little for garnishing
  11. Garlic flakes ( finely chopped)

Instructions

  1. In a glass, add sugar and yeast and then warm water ( 110 C -115C)
  2. Within 10 to 15 min, we can see a frothy mixture in glass which indicates we added right temperature of water without killing the yeast.( Yeast is a microorganissugarssm which converts sugar into carbondioxide and alcohol ).
  3. In a bowl, add flour, baking powder, salt, milk, curd, yeast mixture and mix well and add flour little by little to make it a dough and then add a few drops of oil and knead well.
  4. Cover it with a kitchen towel and close it with a lid and keep it in a warm place ( 80C to 85C) for 2 hours or till it is double in size.
  5. After the dough doubles its size, knead well with little oil and make big orange fruit size balls and flatten it on a flour dusted surface.
  6. Next on one side add chopped garlic and then flatten with a rolling pin.
  7. If doing in an oven, preheat at 350C and apply butter and coriander leaves on our naan and place it in oven for 10 min on both sides.serve hot
  8. I choose stove top option. So, i used iron tawa . On one side of naan, garlic slices were added. So on the other side i brushed with little water and placed on hot tawa with water side on tawa.
  9. We can observe few air bubbles on naan and getting puffed here and there.
  10. Now hold the tawa carefully and flip it so that the garlic flakes side gets direct flame from stove.
  11. When done, remove the naan carefully and brush it with butter and coriander leaves.
  12. Serve hot with butter chicken or any gravy curry.
