Steamed Spinach Discs

Ingredients to make Steamed Spinach Discs

  • spinach leaves chopped 3 cups
  • gram flour or besan 1 cup
  • salt to taste
  • oil 2 tbsp
  • Extra oil for greasing the idli moulds
  • cumin seeds crushed 1 tbsp
  • chilli flakes 1 tbsp
  • black pepper powder 1 tsp
  • turmeric 1/2 tsp
  • eggs 2
  • onion chopped 1
  • coriander leaves chopped a handful
  • curry leaves chopped a handful
  • ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp
  • baking soda 1/4th tsp
  • water for making a semi thick batter

How to make Steamed Spinach Discs

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a wide mouthed bowl and make a thick but flowing batter using little water if needed.
  2. More or less water depends upon the quality of the gram flour. I used nearly 1/4th cup of water.
  3. Meanwhile grease the idli plates and heat up the water in a vessel for steaming.
  4. Pour 2 tbsp of the batter in each groove of the plate and steam for around 20 mins.
  5. Trust me they are so soft and so yummy that no one will ever find out that there is spinach in them.
  6. Serve them steaming hot with imli chutney and any other dip of your choice. I served these for dinner with green chutney and imli chutney both.
  7. They are so soft and spongy as you all can see here.

My Tip:

You can also add chopped green chillies if making these for the adults.
