Curd Jamun Kofta Curry

Ingredients to make Curd Jamun Kofta Curry

  • For making Jamun Kofta:
  • oil- 1 tsp
  • Jamun packet- 1
  • water- for making koftas
  • For the curd curry:
  • oil- 1 tsp
  • 1 medium onion chopped finely
  • 3 slit green chillies
  • 3 large tomatoes pureed
  • 12 to 15 cashew
  • curd- 1 cup
  • poppy seeds- 1 tsp
  • salt- as per taste
  • 1 tablespoon red chilli powder
  • 1 tablespoon dhaniya powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon jeera powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Pinch of turmeric
  • Kasuri methi- 1 tsp
  • water- for making gravy

How to make Curd Jamun Kofta Curry

  1. In a blender add tomatoes and puree it (I strained it because I wanted a smooth gravy). Keep it aside.
  2. In a blender add cashews, poppy seeds (gasagase), curd and grind to a smooth paste. Keep it aside.
  3. Take jamun packet and prepare the jamun koftas as per the instructions on the packet and keep it aside.
  4. Take a heavy bottomed kadai, add very little oil just to fry onions (if more oil is added, jamun koftas tend to absorb more oil. Once the dish is complete it oozes out the extra oil and the dish will be too oily)
  5. Once the oil is heated, add in chopped onions and fry till translucent. Add green chillies and fry, add in strained tomato puree and fry till the tomatoes are cooked half way.
  6. Add in all the spices- Red chilli powder, dhaniya powder, garam masala, salt, Jeera powder, turmeric and fry till the masala is cooked well.
  7. Add in cashew- curd- poppy seed paste. Mix well. Add in Kasuri methi.
  8. Check for the seasoning. Now add the prepared jamun koftas and mix slowly. Turn off the heat and cover the dish for 15 minutes.
  9. Serve the Curd Jamun kofta curry with puri or chapati or roti.

My Tip:

Use less oil. Make sure jamun koftas are cooked on low heat. Use fresh poppy seeds.
