ABOUT Dahi Murgh | Chicken In Yogurt Sauce RECIPE

Dahi murgh or chicken in yogurt gravy is a perfectly balanced Indian meal enjoyed with hot phulkas or rice and a side of pickle/ papas/ salad. Clean, simple and yummy dahi murgh recipe is a perfcet dish for a relaxed meal that’s made just under 30 mins.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 900 gm chicken cleaned and washed
  2. 3 large onions roughly chopped
  3. 1 1/2 cup of thick dahi/ curd/ yogurt
  4. 1 tsp ginger paste
  5. 1 tsp garlic paste
  6. 1 tsp green chili paste (soak in warm water for 15 mins and grind into paste)
  7. Salt & pepper as per taste
  8. 1 tbsp chicken masala (increase as per your preference)
  9. 2 cloves
  10. 1 bay leaf
  11. 1 black cardamom
  12. 1 star anise
  13. 1" daal chini/ cinnamon stick


  1. In a non stick kadai heat olive oil. Add clove, start anise, cinnamon, bay leaf, cardamom. Cook till nice aroma comes, around 30-40 sec.
  2. Add onions and cook till soft.
  3. Next add the chicken pieces and cook till it turns white.
  4. Now add ginger garlic paste and green chili paste and cook on low to medium heat till chicken is almost cooked. Around 20 mins.
  5. Now add salt and pepper to taste, chicken masala. **
  6. Now cook till masala is cooked.
  7. Now add the curd/ yogurt. Cook till well combined. Reduce it down to a dry chicken gravy. This step will take at most 5 min. Cooking any further will split the gravy.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander.
  9. Enjoy with rice and salad.
