Asoka Halwa

Ingredients to make Asoka Halwa

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups moong dal
  • 2 cups ghee
  • Pinch of orange food color
  • 2-3 pinches of cardamom powder
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

How to make Asoka Halwa

  1. Pressure cook moong dal for 4 whistles
  2. Take a pan add the cooked dal and sugar and heat in low flame
  3. Keep stirring and add 2 spoons of ghee every 5 minutes
  4. Add the food coloring and stir until ghee separates
  5. Turn off the stove and and add the nuts and cardamom powder
  6. The nuts can be added as it is or fried in ghee before adding

My Tip:

Cooking the halwa in ghee gives a very nutty and unique flavor
