ABOUT Whole Green Moong Dal RECIPE

Green Moong Dal is a super food with many nutritional and health benefits. It is high in fibre, rich in protein and vitamins. We can have it in many forms - make dals, salad, dry roast and make rotis and parathas or wet grind and make healthy version of dosas, idli and uttapams. It is also good for weight loss and good for skin.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Whole green moong - ½ cup soaked
  2. Water - 1½ cups
  3. Oil - 1 tbsp
  4. Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  5. Onion - 1 chopped finely
  6. Tomato - 1 chopped finely
  7. Coriander powder - ½ tsp
  8. Cumin powder - ½ tsp
  9. Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  10. Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  11. Salt - to taste
  12. Lemon juice - 1 tsp
  13. Coriander leaves chopped


  1. Take the soaked dal in a pressure cooker. Add ½ cup water and pressure cook for 3 whistles. Let the pressure release by itself.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let it crackle. Add onions and salt. Saute till onions becomes soft. Add finely chopped tomatoes and cook for till it is mushy.
  3. Add cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and red chili powder. Mix it well and cook for a minute. 
  4. Add the cooked whole green moong dal. Add 1 cup of water. Mix well and let it simmer for around 5-10 minutes. You can adjust the consistency as per your requirement.
  5. Add chopped coriander leaves. Turn off the heat and add lemon juice. Mix well and serve.
