Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. 1/2 cup urad daal
  2. 4 tbsp moong daal
  3. 1.25 to 1.5 cup water for soaking
  4. 8 tbsp water for grinding
  5. 1/2 tsp cumin
  6. 1 pinch asafoetida
  7. Oil for frying
  8. Curd 2 tbsp
  9. 1 tbsp sweet tamarind chutney
  10. Red chilli powder 2 tsp
  11. Coriander leaves chopped 1 tblsp
  12. Jeera methi powder 1 tsp
  13. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Soak dal for at least 5-6hours (better if soak overnight)
  2. Grind them in a mixture to smooth fluffy batter. Add cumin and asafoetida before grinding
  3. It should be fluffy and not grainy
  4. Take it in a bowl, add salt
  5. Stir the batter for minute till it's light and fluffy
  6. In a kadai heat oil, make vadas with hand, fry them till golden brown
  7. Add vadas in water for 10-15 minutes .
  8. Flatten vadas with palm. Add beaten curd, jeera, methi powder, tamarind chutney, red chilli powder and salt.
  9. Garnish with coriander leaves
