ABOUT Chadan Ji Daag Mein Dal RECIPE

Chana dal in caramelised onion gravy.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup chana dal
  2. 1 large onion, sliced
  3. 1 big tomato, puree
  4. 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  5. 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  6. Salt to taste
  7. 2 Green chillies, chopped
  8. 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  9. 1/2 teaspoon jeera
  10. 3 cups water.
  11. 2 tablespoon oil

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the dal for 2 hours.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoon oil in a pressure cooker.
  3. Add sliced onions and saute till it is caramelised.
  4. Add the jeera and ginger-garlic paste.
  5. Saute for a minute.
  6. Add the garam masala, green chilli, red chilli powder and haldi, saute it.
  7. Add the tomato puree and saute till colour changes.
  8. Put in the dal and fry it with occasional stirring for 5 to 10 minutes.
  9. Add 3 cups water.
  10. Cook on full flame for 3 whistles.
  11. Let the pressure release on it's own.
  12. Serve with ghee rotis or masala puris.
