Soft spongy Urad dal dumplings soaked in yoghurt and dressed with tangy tamarind chutney ..deliciously yummy

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Split urad dal 2 cups
  2. Curd 2 cups
  3. Roasted jeera powder as per needed
  4. Black salt as per needed
  5. Salt to taste
  6. Sugar 4 teaspoons
  7. Red chilly powder
  8. Chopped coriander or mint leaves for garnishing
  9. Oil for deep frying


  1. Wash and dal in sufficient water for 3 to 4 hours
  2. Remove excess water and grind the soaked dal into fine paste
  3. Heat sufficient oil in a pan and deep fry vada in hot oil
  4. When done from one side then turn and fry till golden brown from another side too
  5. Take out in a big bowl or container and dip in cold water for 5 minutes
  6. Squeeze out extra water from vada by pressing with hands
  7. Repeat this process 2 to 3 times and everytime change water
  8. Now beat the curd and add sugar and black salt to it
  9. For serving, place vada on a serving plate, pour sufficient beaten curd on them
  10. Top it with tamarind chutney and then red chilly powder, sprinkle black salt and roasted jeera powder
  11. Serve chilled ..garnish with chopped coriander or mint leaves
