ABOUT Spinach Mixed Dal RECIPE

Every home has a unique recipe of dal, this is full of goodness from spinach. My take on humble dal.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Arhar / Toor dal - 1/2 Cup
  2. Moong dal - 1/4 Cup
  3. Masoor dal - 1/4 Cup
  4. Spinach, chopped - 1 Cup
  5. Peanuts - 15
  6. Butter / ghee - 1 tbsp
  7. Whole dry chilli - 1
  8. Curry leaves - 10
  9. Tomato large - 1, chopped
  10. Garlic paste - 1 tsp
  11. Hing / Asafoetida - a pinch
  12. Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  13. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  14. Coriander powder - 2 tsp
  15. Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  16. Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
  17. Coriander leaves - 1/4 Cup
  18. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash all the daals and put them in the pressure cooker with three cups of water, spinach and peanuts. Cook on slow flame till 3 whistles.
  2. Open the cooker once the pressure releases. Heat ghee in a pan, add mustard and cumin seeds. When the seedscrackle add curry leaves, whole red chilies, asafoetida and garlic paste. Saute till brown.
  3. Add tomatoes and saute well then add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, mix well.
  4. Now add cooked dal and add 2 cup water and a little more salt if needed. Cook for five minutes.
  5. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
