Spinach dal curry

Ingredients to make Spinach dal curry

  • Oil or ghee -2 teaspoon
  • garlic -6 pods
  • spinach (palak) - 1 cup
  • Toor dal - 3/4 cup
  • coconut - 1/4 cup
  • cashews -6 to 8 nos
  • poppy seeds - 1 1/2 teaspoon
  • water - 2 to 3 cups
  • salt - as needed

How to make Spinach dal curry

  1. Wash the toor dal and pressure cook with turmeric powder.
  2. Add 2 to 2.5 cups of water and pressure cook for 4 whistles or till the Dal becomes soft and mushy. Keep it aside.
  3. Chop the garlic pods and set aside.
  4. Chop the spinach and set aside.
  5. Make a fine paste of coconut, cashews and poppy seeds using 2 teaspoon of water in a mixie jar.
  6. Take a pan. Add ghee or oil.
  7. Add garlic pods and saute well for 3 to 4 mins
  8. Add chopped spinach and water . Boil the spinach well .
  9. Once the spinach is cooked add a fine white paste which is made up of coconut , poppy seeds and cashews
  10. Stir it well and add cooked toor dal and salt.
  11. Boil it for 6 to 10 minutes. Serve it hot along with ghee and rice

My Tip:

Instead of spinach we can use veggies like drumstick or cabbage.
