Katla fish pieces cooked in rich creamy white gravy made of curd, ginger-garlic-onion, cashew nuts and some spices.

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. Katla fish - 8 pieces
  2. Curd - 150 grams
  3. Ginger paste - 2 spoon
  4. Garlic paste - 1 spoon
  5. Big Onion - 2, 1 chopped & 1 made into paste
  6. Green chilli paste - 2-3 spoon
  7. Oil - 1/2 Cup
  8. Coriander powder - 1/2 spoon
  9. Cumin powder - 1/2 spoon
  10. Garam masala powder - 1/4 spoon
  11. Cardamom - 1 pod
  12. Cinnamon - 2" Piece
  13. Bay leaves - 2 small
  14. Water - 1 Cup
  15. Salt as per taste


  1. Wash the fish pieces. Pat dry. Marinade with salt. Heat half the oil, fry the fish pieces and keep aside.
  2. Heat remaining oil in the same pan. Add bay leaves and cinnamon - cardamom.
  3. When they release aroma, add chopped onions and fry until they are golden.
  4. Now add ginger, garlic paste and fry for 3-4 minutes. Add onion and green chilli paste and saute fir 4-5 minutes.
  5. Add curd and cashew nuts paste. Cook for 3-4 minutes. Add salt.
  6. Now add the water and when start boiling add the fish pieces. Cover the pan and cook for 7-8 minutes or until the gravy is thickened.
  7. Now sprinkle the garam masala and cover for 1-2 minutes.
  8. Your doi katla is ready, serve with hot steamed rice.
