ABOUT Katla macher jhol RECIPE

This is a typical bengali fish curry made with a fish called katla, a perfect curry with just so,e steamed rice.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Katla fish 500 gms cut into pieces
  2. 2 medium potatoes peeled and sliced
  3. 1/2 cup cauliflower florets
  4. 8 to 10 bodi (lentil dumplings)
  5. 1 inch ginger
  6. 3 to 4 green chillies
  7. 1 tsp cumin
  8. 1 medium tomato chopped
  9. Turmeric 1 tsp
  10. 2 tsp coriander powder
  11. 1 tsp chilli powder
  12. Salt to taste
  13. 1 tsp nigella seeds


  1. Apply salt and turmeric powder to the fish pieces . Keep aside
  2. In a pan heat oil. Fry potatoes, cauliflower florets and badi separately in batches one by one. Keep aside
  3. Fry the fish pieces till golden from both sides
  4. Grind a fine paste of ginger cumin and green chillies
  5. In a pan heat 2 tbsp oil. Add the nigella seeds. Add in the ginger chilli paste. Saute well. Add the tomatoes. Mix well
  6. Add turmeric, chilli powder,coriander powdrr and salt. Cook well. Add lil water make a smooth masala.
  7. Add the fried potatoes, cauliflower florets and badi . Mix well.
  8. Ads 1 cup water. Cover and cook for sometime
  9. Add the fried fish pieces mix well.
  10. After obe boil. Remove from flame.
  11. Garnish with some coriander leaves and serve with plain rice
