Ingredients to make Papda macher jhol

  • Papda fishes- 6
  • turmeric powder - 1.5 tsp
  • jeera powder- 1 tsp
  • red chilly powder - 1 tsp
  • tomato (chopped) - 1
  • Kalaunji (onion seeds) - 1 tsp
  • Slitted green chillies - 3
  • salt
  • mustard oil
  • coriander leaves

How to make Papda macher jhol

  1. Marinate the fishes with salt and 1/2 tsp of the Turmeric powder.
  2. Shallow fry the marinated fishes in little mustard oil. Keep aside.
  3. Now in the same oil, add some more and heat it. Add the kalaunji seeds.
  4. Once they start sizzling, add the green chillies followed by the chopped tomatoes.
  5. Now add the powdered masalas, salt and cook with a lid on till the masala is cooked.
  6. Add water and bring upto boil.
  7. Add the fried fishes, coriander leaves and cook for few minutes more.
  8. Serve
