About Papda macher kalo jeere jhol Recipe

This is a simple yet delightful fish curry made with a fish called "papda" in bengali.

Ingredients to make Papda macher kalo jeere jhol

  • For marination :
  • Papda fish - 4
  • turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • chilly powder - 1/4 th tsp
  • salt
  • For the curry :
  • Nigella seeds (kalaunji) - 1/2 tsp
  • Slit green chillies - 2
  • turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
  • cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
  • tomatoes (chopped) - 1
  • coriander leaves (handful)
  • mustard oil
  • salt

How to make Papda macher kalo jeere jhol

  1. Clean and wash the fish. Marinate them with turmeric powder, salt and chilly powder for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat mustard oil in a pan, once it reaches the smoking point, shallow fry the marinated fishes (whole) for few few minutes on each side, strain them.
  3. In the same oil, add the nigella seeds, slit green chillies.
  4. Then add the tomatoes followed by the powdered masalas and salt.
  5. Lower the flame and cook for few minutes till the tomatoes are mushy and cooked.
  6. Then add water for gravy, bring upto boil and then add the fried fishes.
  7. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve.
