Soft fresh water fish cooked in a pungent mustard gravy

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Pabda fish or any other fresh water fish as per choice 6 nos
  2. Mustard oil 250 gms
  3. Mustard seeds 50 gms
  4. Green chilli 8 nos
  5. Salt to taste
  6. Curd 50 gms
  7. sugar 1 teaspoon
  8. Turmeric powder 2 teaspoon


  1. Take the fish and clean it well and marinate for 15 minutes with salt and 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  2. Fry the fish in 200 mustard oil and let it rest
  3. Grind the mustard seed with little salt and 3 to 4 nos of green chilli
  4. No mix 50 ml of raw mustard oil to the paste and mix well
  5. Add the curd and beat it well
  6. Add 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  7. Add this paste to a fresh wok and cook well
  8. And salt and sugar to taste
  9. Add water when the oil leaves the gravy
  10. Let it boil and now add the fish
  11. Add the remaining green chilli
  12. Let it simmer for some time
  13. Pour over some more mustard oil if you want (raw or leftover after frying of fish)
  14. Serve hot with steamed rice
